With its vibrant cultural identity, historical monuments, and wonderful diversity of natural attractions, Ghana is one of Africa’s friendliest countries. Inhabited since at least 4000 B.C.,
successive waves of migration from the north and east have resulted in its present ethnographic composition. As well as possessing magnificent beaches, its coast also has a string of old slave fortresses. Just inland are tropical forests and the Kakoum National Park, famous for its canopied walkway. Further ahead, the city of Kumasi is the heart of the Ashanti people, who ruled the most powerful kingdom in Ghana and still have the richest culture in the land. Further north, the Mole National Park offers superb wildlife viewing. In the farthest reaches is the semi-desert climate of the Sahel where you can experience the distinctive society of the Dogomba tribe. Finally, the eastern region is dominated by the vast Lake Volta, the world’s largest artificial lake.
